Oogie students gathered for a group show to showcase what they learned and how the recent trip to Silicon Valley changed or influenced their ideas about art.
Visiting Artist: Lee Boroson Professor at RISD
Senior Critic of the Sculpture Department at the Rhode Island School of Design, Lee Boroson makes a visit to Oogie Art to view several Oogie student’s artworks and give them advice on how to improve their work, especially for their portfolio. Boron is best known for his room-filling inflated sculpture, inspired by many sources including historic garden design to the Architecture of over-looked sections in buildings.

Art & Technology - in Palo Alto, San Jose, San Francisco
This past summer of 2013, Oogie Art students took a major trip to visit various companies in Silicon Valley. This was by far one of the most rewarding experience for our students as they were given advice and stories from industry professionals directly. Students saw first-hand how art and technology were creating new, in-demand career paths for art college graduates giving them lots of practical insight into how they could better prepare their paths as artists & designers. Some of the design and tech-startups visited were Elemental 8, a product design agency, Liquid Agency, a branding and marketing firm, and Wagic, a toy design company. From listening to the advice & stories from passionate people in the industries, it gave students inspiration to pursue their dreams.

Artist Studio Visit: Summer Wheat, New York
Oogie students visited the studio of Summer Wheat, a visual artist working in Brooklyn. Her work is a combination of sculptural installation, drawing, and most notably painting. She looks for innovative ways to apply the paint to canvas, and has used objects like syringes, mops, and brooms to apply the paint. Her work is sometimes grotesque and messy, and sometimes alludes to a social critique of the wealthy and destitute classes. After visiting, students were inspired by the layering of paint and different ways to apply paint to surfaces.
NYC College Visits: Parsons, Pratt, NYU, SVA
The admissions teams from Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, New York University and School of Visual Arts came to speak with Oogie students in July 2013, on the admissions process and any new updates in their program. Each year, dozens of students are admitted into each school and end up studying a range of majors including Illustration, Fine Art, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, etc. Students are encouraged to start thinking about where they want to apply and what major is of interest to them towards the end of Sophomore year and beginning of Junior Year to get a head start on their portfolios. Director Wook has some of the best guidelines for students to also gain admissions with scholarships.

Artist Studio Visit: John Monti Professor, Yale University
Oogie students visited the studio of John Monti, a sculptor, based in Brooklyn, NY. Monti has exhibited nationally and internationally both in museums and galleries and has completed public commissions plus set and costume designs for dance. His work has been at the confluence of Minimalist, Pop and Surrealist streams.
Visiting Artist: John Torreano, MFA Director at NYU
John Torreano is a New York based artist and curator. He’s taught at the NYU studio art program since 1992. He gave students advice and his experience of the department at the Steinhart School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at NYU. He also showed examples of his paintings and sculptures. His work has been featured in the Whitney Biennial.
Artist's Talk: Dennis Adams, MIT Professor
Dennis Adams in an American artist known for his urban interventions and museum installations. He’s a professor at MIT and has been the faculty member or visiting professor at numerous schools including Cooper Union, Parsons School of Design, etc. His work reveals historical and political undercurrents in photography, cinema, public space and architecture.

Art College Admissions I Based on her 4 newspaper Columns
Oogie Art has for the first time published a book titled Art College Admissions I, which is a guideline for students entering the Art & Design field. It includes the top 10 undergraduate schools throughout the US, including Pratt Institute, SVA, Parsons, etc. Based on Director Wook Choi's experience with the portfolio and admissions process, it includes tips on how to better prepare your portfolio, how to gain scholarships, and useful information on updated school programs. Change by Design: Group Show for Business and Design Course
Oogie students took a course on product design, and learned all about 3D printing. Some products they were asked to design were a lamp, bookends, iPhone case, lighting, lens cover, cups. Students had an exhibition of their products and designs at the end of the course.

London Olympic Art Leadership Program - Collaboration with IMAF Italian NGO
The International Migration Art Festival, an Italian Non-profit organization, had a show at the gallery in London and Oogie students assisted contemporary artists during the installation of artworks held at the London Olympics.

Artist Studio Visit: Kunié Sugiura
Kunié Sugiura is a Japanese based photographer working in New York City. Her medium of choice is the photogram, which is is a photographic image made without a camera by placing objects directly onto the surface of a light-sensitive material such as photographic paper and then exposing it to light. During their visit, students were able to create sample photograms giving them further inspiration and ideas for future projects.
Italian IMAF Art Festival Volunteering Event 2012 - Wook & Lattuada Gallery
IMAF is a nonprofit organization legally registered in Italy. IMAF aims at helping and promoting artistic talent in different cultural venues and art categories, such as, cinema, literature, music and visual art by giving national and internationals exposure. A the exhibition which was held at Wook & Lattuada Gallery, students were able to volunteer and help guests on the opening night.
Art in America - Summer Art Abroad Program 11 cities 12 museums 8 colleges NYC, DC FL, IL, MA
Oogie students traveled to 11 different cities, 12 museums and 8 colleges this summer. It was an extensive program to help students familiarize with all the famous classic and contemporary artwork one might see in an art history book. Students also visited several colleges and toured the campuses, giving them an idea for future plans to apply to an art school. It was a great experience to get out of the studio and view great works of art.

Italian IMAF Art Festival Volunteering Event
International Migration Art Festival held at the Wook & Lattuada Gallery
In New York IMAFestival collaborated with Wook + Lattuada Gallery for the opening reception event on the April 25th and at La MaMa Theatre for the New York Big Closing Event on the May 3rd. The exhibition Sport Your Food opened with the exhibition “Eat Art – When Food Becomes Art,” drawing on the relationship between food and migration at Wook + Lattuada Gallery.
Art & Design in London: Summer Abroad Program
Oogie students took an extensive trip to visit the famous works of art located at the Tate and the National Gallery in London. Amongst the famous works were Monet's Water Lilies, Georges Seurat, William Turner, and an introduction to Britain's famous artist David Hockney.

Malaysia Leadership Program
Art Leadership program in Lumawawasang orphanage in Ipoh, Malaysia.
Oogie students traveled to Malaysia to paint a colorful mural at an orphanage located in Ipoh. It was painted on the wall of their workshop center where students learn basic sewing or barbershop skills in order to prepare them for a job once they leave the orphanage. Oogie students made artwork together on the topic of mentors and role models, and many orphans told their stories of missing their own families. Oogie students learned the role of bringing art to connect as a universal language.

Fashion for a Cause: Charity Fundraising Event
To donate art supplies, computer and clothes to Vision Home in Ipoh, Malaysia, Oogie art students designed t-shirts and has a fashion show to sell it. BoConcept, Cold Stone Ice Cream, The Korea Times, KBN Broadcasting, Balance water sponsored this event.
Architecture & Art in Spain and Venice
Oogie students took a trip to Spain and Venice this August to view the famous artwork and architecture in each country. Students started out in Barcelona and Madrid, visiting the Sagrada Familia and Architecture by Gaudi, along with the Prado museum and seeing famous works of art by Velazquez, Goya, Picasso, etc. heading to Venice to learn about the Renaissance and Mannerism.

Artist Assistant Program: Angiola Churchill, Formal Head of Art dept at NYU - Incheon Artist biennale
The Formal Head of Art department at NYU, Angiola Churchill was invited from the Incheon Artist Biennual Show and Oogie students went to Korea, to help her install and learn more about her artwork. Angiola gave students a tour of her studio, and Oogie students were also able to attend many forums and seminars happening throughout the city.
